What is Marketing Theatre?
Marketing Theatre (noun): marketing that performs instead of produces. All noise, no pipeline.
You've seen it. It looks like this:
- The guru selling the "6-figure system"
- The AI-hype merchant: "this one prompt will 10x your revenue"
- Vanity metrics: impressions that never became a customer
- Jargon engineered to make owners feel stupid enough to pay
- The "just post more" treadmill
Marketing has been captured by theatre: hype, jargon and vanity metrics that keep normal business owners busy, broke and feeling stupid. The theatre isn't a person; it's a behaviour. Plenty of good agencies, freelancers and in-house marketers do the boring, real work, which is exactly the point. Real marketing is unglamorous. The theatre is the lie that it isn't.
"The boring maths that fills a pipeline will never trend. That's how you know it works."
This whole site is the counter-programme: the maths, the honest hiring advice, and the Letters, where the Theatre gets reviewed most weekdays.
